The Agenda Americans Want

April 11, 2013 2:25 pm ET
The President said his FY14 budget is not the "ideal plan," which reflects his efforts to go "more than halfway" towards what GOP leaders in Congress want -- goals that are far removed from an agenda that reflects Americans' real priorities. Here are polling points to back you up.

TaxesTwo out of 3 Americans support raising taxes on the richest 2%, and 8 out of 10 Americans say it's an important budget goal to close tax loopholes that benefit big corporations.

JobsPoll after poll shows that the American people overwhelmingly rank jobs and unemployment as more important priorities than the budget deficit. (The good news is that putting Americans back to work is the best way to deal with the deficit.)

EducationEight out of 10 Americans oppose cutting federal funding for K-12 education.

Pre-Kindergarten Schools: Three out of 4 Americans support making high-quality preschool education available to every child in America.

Clean EnergyEight out of 10 voters agree that the U.S. should use more renewable energy sources in the future, and 6 out of 10 Americans say they would be willing to pay more for energy if it meant utility companies have to produce more of it from renewable sources, like solar energy.

Climate ChangeNine out of 10 Americans say the U.S. should make an effort to reduce global warming, even if it has economic costs, and 9 out of 10 Americans agree that developing sources of clean energy should be a priority for the President and Congress.

Freedom To Marry: Poll after poll shows that the majority of Americans support allowing same-sex couples the freedom to marry and commit to each other.
